The pink color of the sake is naturally produced by the action of red sake yeast (pink yeast), and no coloring agents are used.

花神酒是一种粉红色的清酒，由第四代酿酒大师宇都宫重明以小说《花神》命名，他曾给作家司马辽太郎写了一封长达 12 页的信，请求允许以小说的名字命名清酒。司马欣然同意，并在一张手写的明信片上回复道，因此这款酒就被赋予了这个名字。小说《花神》讲述的是明治维新志士大村益次郎与西博尔德之女楠本伊根的故事。仓库的所在地也与小说有关，伊根曾在仓库所在地卯之町，在西博尔德的弟子二宫惠作的指导下学习医术。
