The pink color of the sake is naturally produced by the action of red sake yeast (pink yeast), and no coloring agents are used.

花神酒是一款粉色清酒，其名称取自小说《花神》，由第四代酿酒师宇都宫重明命名。他曾写给作家司马辽太郎一封长达12页的信，恳求他以小说《花神》命名这款花色清酒。司马辽太郎亲切地回信，附上一张手写明信片，表示同意。小说《花神》讲述了明治维新时期的爱国人士大村益次郎和菲利普·弗朗茨·冯·西博尔德之女楠本伊根的故事。由于伊根在酿酒厂所在的卯之町，即西博尔德的弟子二宫惠作门下学习医术，因此酿酒厂的所在地也与小说有关。
