Our brewery is located in Koka City, known as the home of the Koka ninja, on the border between Shiga and Mie prefectures. Long ago, around 1764, our ancestors brewed sake under the name "Takaraichi," but the quality of the sake was not very good, and they were at their wit's end. Following a divine oracle from the local Yamamura Shrine, they dug a well, and unparalleled high-quality water gushed forth from this area. The sake brewed with this water, combined with Omi rice, a famous rice-producing region, was so delicious that they changed the name of their sake from "Takaraichi" to "Kamikai" (神開)...meaning sake created by divine revelation...and that name has remained to this day.
