Our brewery is located on the border between Shiga and Mie prefectures, in Koka City, known as the home of the Koka Ninja. Long ago, around 1764, our ancestors were brewing sake under the name "Takaraichi," but were frustrated by the poor quality of the sake. They sought divine guidance from the local Yamamura Shrine and dug a well, whereupon an unparalleled source of water gushed forth nearby. The resulting sake, brewed with Omi rice, was so delicious that they renamed it "Kamihiraki" (Shinkai) instead of "Takaraichi" - sake made by divine guidance - and this name has remained to this day.
