Fukumitsu Sake Brewery Co., Ltd. is a sake brewery founded in 1933. In the spring of 2006, the previous brewery owner, who was also the master brewer, fell ill and was forced to close the business, and consequently returned the sake brewing license to the government. Nine years later, in 2015, Hirotaka Fukumitsu, the founder's great-grandson, quit his corporate job and became the fourth-generation brewery owner. After that, with the help of local people and local university students, he began cleaning, repairing, and renovating the dilapidated sake brewery. He was unable to obtain permission to acquire a sake brewing license and gave up on that. He decided to brew "doburoku" (unrefined sake) under a special zone license. After about four years of preparation, Fukumitsu Sake Brewery was revived in 2019 after a 13-year hiatus. Currently, in addition to making delicious doburoku, they are also contributing to the revitalization of the local community. At the same time, they are working to promote and popularize "doburoku," which is said to be the origin of sake.
