Daruma Masamune (Shiraki Tsunesuke Shoten) was founded in 1835 (Edo period). Founded in the same year that Sakamoto Ryoma and Atsuhime (famous from historical dramas) were born, the company has been brewing sake in Gifu since its inception. They began producing aged sake in the 1960s. At a time when large, inexpensive sake brands were entering the market, the sixth-generation owner decided to differentiate themselves by focusing on aged sake. Even though it's called "aged sake," it takes many years, even decades. For over 50 years, through trial and error, they have staked their entire company's future on aged sake, continuing their diligent efforts. Thanks to these efforts, aged sake has become their main product, enjoyed by people in Japan and overseas.
