Founded in 1886 in Nose, a naturally rich area with terraced rice fields at the northernmost tip of Osaka Prefecture, Akishika has been a pioneer in the "integrated production" method for sake brewing for about 30 years. Although the concept of "domaine" production (manufacturing from raw materials to finished product) has recently gained attention in the sake industry, similar to wine production, Akishika has been working on this method for about 30 years. Since around 1990, under the guidance of Masaharu Nagatani, a leading expert in cultivating Yamada Nishiki rice, the 6th generation brewery owner, Hiroaki Oku, has been cultivating sake rice himself, realizing the "integrated production" method from rice cultivation to brewing.
