"Chidori," a local sake that has been produced in Uwa, Ehime Prefecture, since its founding in 1910, is a sweet pure rice sake typical of the Nanyo region, made with lightly polished rice using traditional methods. It is said to have been named after the founder and first brewer, Utsunomiya Torajiro, who was a sumo wrestler in rural areas and whose shikona (sumo name) was "Chidori." The title of the current label, "Chidori," was written by Sakamura Shinmin, the poet famous for his poem "Nezureba Hanabiraku (If you wish, the flowers will bloom)." Utsunomiya Shigeaki, the fourth-generation president of the brewery, was a family friend of Sakamura Shinmin, and so he asked him to write the calligraphy. Enjoy Chidori, a sake that has been loved in the Nanyo region for over 110 years, while immersing yourself in its history.
