Founded in 1914, Oonogawa is located at the foot of Mount Horoha in the northwest of the Yokote Basin, in Omori-cho, Yokote City, the home of the ancient Shimotsuki Kagura dance. Yokote is a town that receives particularly heavy snowfall in the snowy country of Akita. The climate and culture of the people who live here, including the famous "kamakura" snow huts, have been nurtured by the snow. "We want to brew sake that not only gets you drunk but also intoxicates your soul," says Oonogawa, who brews his sake with care, in keeping with the local air and atmosphere of the brewery. The sake is brewed using pure water from the Dewa Hills, which is suitable for sake brewing, and is brewed in the traditional Akita style cold brewing method by Toji Yamauchi.
