The brewery's name comes from Jurakudai, the mansion built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the former regent. The brewery is located (Kamigyo Ward, Kyoto City) on the former site of Jurakudai, and as the area's name "Izumi" (seawater) suggests, it is blessed with abundant, high-quality groundwater, and has long been a region where water-related industries such as sake brewing and the tea ceremony have thrived. The brewery pumps up groundwater from the same aquifer as the "Ginmeisui" water that Sen no Rikyu is said to have used in his tea ceremony, and this water is still used as brewing water today. The words "Rakuchu Tradition" embody the spirit of our brewery, which has continued to preserve the traditions of sake brewing in the capital since its founding.
