The name comes from Yasunari Kawabata's novel "The Ancient Capital." He commented that "the flavor of this sake is the taste of Kyoto," and the brand name was handwritten by him while he was alive, and is still used on the packaging today. He became a fan of the sake after drinking it at a restaurant in the Gion area while he was in Tokyo, and has visited our brewery twice. We named it "Fukumitori" (Fukumitori) as it is an auspicious item that brings good fortune.
