Founded in 1892 (Meiji 25) as "Takeshima Honke" in Minakuchi-juku on the old Tokaido road, Warashiki Sake Brewery was named "Warashiki" by the second generation brewer, expressing their commitment to brewing exquisite sake that will bring a smile to your face when you taste it. Under the leadership of fifth-generation brewer and brewmaster Takeshima Masahiko, the brewery has been brewing all sake using pure rice, using a kimoto method without the addition of brewing alcohol or lactic acid, and focusing on sake with a clean, sweet flavor. The brewery quickly became known for its "Kijoshu Monsoon." Using contracted rice from Shiga Prefecture and utilizing both underground water from their own well in the Suzuka Mountains and ultra-soft water from the Iwama Mountains, they continue to produce local sake unique to Omi.
