This sake was born from a reconstruction project in Cabo Delgado Province, northern Mozambique, East Africa. As part of the reconstruction of the livelihoods of local farmers, rice grown in the area was purchased with the cooperation of a local company and used in sake brewing, crossbred with Japanese horse-plowed Koshihikari rice. The local rice is a native variety called Mukojo, a type of non-glutinous rice. The koji is made using precious Japanese horse-plowed Koshihikari rice, carefully cultivated without fertilizers or pesticides, using only the power of people and horses. As the name of the sake suggests, named after Yasuke, the first foreign samurai in Japanese history who was from Mozambique and served Oda Nobunaga, this sake is born from the meeting and fusion of the cultures of two countries. Kyoto's Shōtoku Brewery produced only 500 bottles using the traditional kimoto method. It has been on sale since spring 2023.
