Founded in 1675, this sake brewery has one of the oldest histories in Fushimi, and is the original brewer of "nigori sake" and "aged sake." Facing Toba's Tsukurimichi road, it once served as a lodging for nobles traveling from Kyoto to the western provinces. The name "Tsuki no Katsura" was given to this sake by a nobleman named Arenakoji Arinaga, who wrote, "Drawing night after night the clear, moonlit Katsura River waters, I will prosper for generations to come." It is praised by many writers and poets, and is also known as "literati sake." Above all, this brewery has carefully cultivated the "seasonality" and "individuality" of its sake.
