It has a fruity taste as if it contains plum or acerola juice, a soft and light smoothness, and a low alcohol content, making it popular among those who do not usually drink sake and those who like fruit sake. The pink color of the sake is naturally produced by the action of red sake yeast (pink yeast), and no coloring agents are used.

花神（Hanakami）是一款粉紅色的清酒，名稱源自小說《花神》。第四代釀酒師宇都宮重明曾寫信給小說作者司波亮太郎，懇求他以這部小說的名字命名這款花色清酒。司波亮太郎欣然應允，並寄來了一張手寫的明信片。小說《花神》講述了明治維新時期愛國者大村增次郎和菲利普·弗朗茨·馮·西博爾德之女楠本伊根的故事。酒廠位於宇都宮町，而楠本伊根正是在那裡跟隨西博爾德的弟子二宮圭作學習醫術，這也與小說有著某種聯繫。
